weaker. there will still be some rain, everything stays north of santa rosa and even that might be a little overdone and that seems to be the dividing line. calistoga, everything stays up and later today some of that will dip down and then it kind of stays there and starts stay and we will get some approaches but nothing like we had over the weekend. there are some areas that are already pretty soaked. so far it is staying there and we can't find much in the north bay but not because it has not happened but so far nothing is showing up. 50s on the temperatures, that is a key. cloudy light rain to the north. temperatures are with a southeast wind except to the north where they are already socked in. vallejo, napa, a little warmer, they would not be surprised, a little cooler to the north not bad to the south, rain will take us and it's out of here. thursday friday, inland saturday, with your weekend in view, it looks cooler and windy. >>> european markets opened with gains and that bucks the trendset by most -- trend set by most markets overnight. only china finished with gains a

. temperatures in the north bay. 36 in napa valley. and santa rosa. and 5 degrees what we felt 24 hours ago. a little bitter there. widespread 40s and livermore. 51 degrees. we are off to a better start this morning. we are soaring above yesterday's highs. 67 for santa rosa. and these numbers four to 8 degrees above the seasonal average. 65 expected in oakland. and low 60s in san francisco and out to candlestick to watch the 49ers play, it is a mild one. mid 60s for hayward and down to 66 in san jose. and 67 in morgan hill. how about santa cruz mostly sunny skies and 66 expected in your afternoon. the extended forecast here, we will hold onto the above normal temps through monday. and then we start to see the changes move our way. partly sunny skies. you will feel the transition by the second half of the afternoon. we wake up wednesday afternoon with scattered showers and look at the afternoon high. they take a plunge. expected 50s for the afternoons. i will show you the forecast model on the rain coming up. >>> tragic story out of pennsylvania after a 7-year-old boy is killed by his father

at the storm totals, paul? >> reporter: a lot of rainfall over a 5-day period. santa rosa you took the cake. nearly 8 inches of rain for you. we had 4 inches of rain, more than that in san francisco. oakland, 3-1/2 and san jose 2 1/2 inches of rain. we are mainly clear. not a drop of rain anywhere in the bay area. normal rainfall for the entire month of december in san francisco. over 4 inches. we had more than that over just the past 5 days. in case you were not outside this morning it was windy. 63 mile-an-hour wind gusts, napa, 53 miles per hour. and at the airport, sfo, 52 miles per hour. heavy rain, done, cheer night, more rain in the fore-- clear night, more rain in the forecast. we will let you know coming up. >>> several north bay communities watched as rivers continued to rise. some predicted to flood. tonight, the warnings were lifted and communities are breathing a collective sigh of relief. the napa river is still high but it did not overflow, don? >> reporter: that is the good news, right behind us we have been looking at it. cresting right now on the backside of the crest. it

of moderate rain and then by -- could be a line of moderate rain associated with that they rosa. the cloud cover and a little southeast breeze helping along. this is just a warm sector in advance of this. this is a much weaker system than anything we saw of the previous three. but it's still going to produce some rain. the heavier rain would be about santa rosa north. 1 to 2 inches could easily fall south of that. mostly cloudy, light rain to the north. 50s, 60s. too much cloud cover. some of that rain must keep temperatures in check. mild, kind of muggy. morning lane, into wednesday morning. clearing, pattern change. this will be the last system in the series. we go dry. light and morning fog will be a huge issue friday into saturday morning -- saturday morning. >>> authorities will continue to search for a missing couple believed to be lost in the sierra south of pollack pines. last thursday, the couple left citrus heights, a sacramento suburb, to drive through the sierra to nevada. family members report they never made it and the storm on sunday has hampered the search. >>> why the pres

jose. 62 san francisco. 61 santa rosa. maybe one to two inches of rains but right now looks like no flooding expected from the next storm. back to you. >> but it is acomin'. thank you. >>> 5:05. work is ongoing to fix the gaping hole in a road in lafayette. a portion of mountain view drive caved in during the storm over the weekend and now residents going to deal with a lot of construction activity probably for months to come. cbs 5 reporter elissa harrington is in lafayette to show us the status of some of the repair work. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. behind me is some of that heavy equipment being used to repair the road and as you can imagine there is a lot of work to be done. east bay m.u.d., pg&e, sanitation crews and city official have all been out here to the scene of this giant sinkhole. so far they have been clearing debris while making sure residents can still get gas and water service. those lines were damaged. they have had to temporarily run some of the lines above ground. this sinkhole is 80 feet long, 40 feet wide and 15 feet deep. it opened up on sunda

of rain. most of that has fallen in the last hour. santa rosa an inch of rain. there was an inch and third. napa half inch of rain. kentfield .23. there has been about .15 toward crockett and benicia. right there looking at the last few frames you can see off the marin coast and san francisco down toward san mateo coast and half-moon bay. things are really starting to pick up here. this is a very steady rain. no wind associated with it. over oakland and berkeley and heading over toward the east bay. you can see that is pretty good rain. stretching toward antioch and discovery bay. what is really going right now is off the marin coast and san francisco and now down the san mateo coast. look for steady rain now. the area of low pressure is coming in. cloudy with rain. drizzle for some. heavier rain for others. it lookalikes things are calming down -- it looks like things are calming down. this will be the last system. it will give us morning rain and decreasing tonight. >>> all right thank you. we have breaking news now this morning. word that citi group is cutting jobs. the bank announced i

six hours russian river only quarter of an inch, santa rosa half an inch. petaluma a little more than a quarter. let's talk about temperatures dress for mid 50s to low 60s. mid 50s around the monterey bay. rain this morning, showers this afternoon. foggy spots the next couple of nights brighter and drier starting tomorrow. here's that wave we talked about yesterday, hooking up with the front slowing progress bringing us the higher intensity of rain during the morning commute, you can see noon the steadier rain moves east, scattered light showers will continue during the afternoon hours if you have outdoor plans be prepared overnight maybe a stray shower then tomorrow's morning commute all gone a little fog forming then partly sunny and dry thursday afternoon. rainfall amounts up to half inch south bay, up to an inch around the bay and the east bay if you get caught under this training of these storms up to an inch and a half in the north bay. no worries for tailgating tomorrow the game ought to be in the 50s partly cloudy, temperatures slightly cooler, dry with a lot of sunshine frida

of santa rosa could see an inch or two of rain. the school plans to reopen and that's after a huge cleanup. maintenance workers in fairfax had to rip out the carpets. water and mud poured into the classrooms because of an overflowing culvert and damage is estimated into the tens of thousands of dollars. >>> coming up at 6:45, lanes are being shut down and we have more on when they are scheduled to reopen. >>> a suspicious car fire in oakland. it happened about 3:00 this morning and there is the video. tires have been stripped and what you are seeing is under investigation. >>> big changes are coming in contra costa. today county supervisors are planning a plan to close down four fire stations. they are slated foreclosure in walnut creek, clayton and lafayette. this list comes a month after voters in the contra costa district rejected measure q. the parcel tax would have funded all four of those stations. >>> they are scheduled to discuss a plan today that would allow them to shoot at birds near runways. they would allow trained employees to shoot at birds to disburse birds at the airport
